The magazine really flourished during the depression under the guidance of founder and editor Arnold Gingrich. The magazine originally started as a racy magazine and was transformed into a more refined magazine with an emphasis on men's fashion and contributions by such literary masters as Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
